ZH: Beacon Technology, Hand Hygiene Compliance & Improving HAIs

Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) are defined as: “An infection acquired in hospital by a patient who was admitted for a reason other than that infection (1). An infection occurring in a patient in a hospital or other health care facility in whom the infection was not present or incubating at the time of admission. This includes infections acquired in the hospital but appearing after discharge, and also occupational infections among staff of the facility (2).” [World Health Organization, Department of Communicable Disease, Surveillance and Response, Prevention of hospital-acquired infections, 2002].

The CDC confirms that the improvement in HAIs have not been as drastic as expected between 2008-2014 (USA). This is a concern for many healthcare facilities, as well as patients who are admitted into these facilities. According to the National and State Healthcare-Associated Infections Progress Report, HAIs have improved slightly, but “despite progress, more action is needed at every level of public health and health care to eliminate infections that commonly threaten hospital patients, and to reach the new HHS proposed targets for December 2020”[http://www.cdc.gov/hai/pdfs/progress-report/exec-summary-haipr.pdf].

ZH believes in the absolute need to improve HAIs and to make patients feel safe while visiting healthcare facilities. Doctors and nurses are often blamed for patient re-admissions, which may not always be the case. With ZH’s Hand Hygiene Compliance Solution – hand washing records can be monitored to improve overall HHC rates, while also protecting caregivers who prove compliance.

  • Dashboards and statistics are reported and analyzed by ZH in order to monitor and, ultimately, predict caregiver behavior within your facility.
  • Pop-up notifications can also be utilized to remind caregivers to practice good hand hygiene.
  • Beacon technology is used to map and track asset flow and people flow within your facility. Caregivers wear badge beacon ID’s which show dispenser activation’s, entry/exit into patient rooms, and more.
  • Live recordings, heat maps, machine learning capabilities and the ZH Analytics Module can be fully utilized to improve overall hospital efficiencies, improve HAIs, and increase overall customer satisfaction.
